cyra esmaili / born September 7th at 12:20 am.
once i hit 38 weeks, i did all the things to try to induce labor at my 38 week check up, i was dilated 1.5 cm & 70% effaced. i ate loads of pineapple, spicy food, stability ball bouncing, raspberry leaf tea, dates, walked a lot, went up stairs -- everything & anything! i'm almost positive i lost my mucus plug on friday, september 3rd, but didn't want to get my hopes up. also, i heard that the mucus plug could come out even weeks before go time! I did have light cramping, but didn't think anything of it!
fast forward to sunday, september 5th. i somehow managed to get a full leg workout in that morning--with light cramping. it wasn't consistent. at around 10am, the cramps intensified (think intense period cramps or gas cramps) & were about 20 minutes apart. i texted my sister who said to start tracking them using the contractions app. so glad i did! by 1pm, these "cramps" were exactly 10 minutes apart on the dot. i was able to still talk through them, but it was definitely more than just a cramp at this point. the hubbz & i layed low the entire day & night - resting & relaxing as much as possible.
apparently in the middle of that night, i'd wake up on & off groaning from pain whenever the contractions came on. i woke up on monday the 6th with contractions anywhere from 4-12 minutes apart, still not consistent. i was definitely uncomfortable at this point. i called kaiser & said i wanted to be checked, so they had us come in. we got there around 9:30ish & they put us in observation at L&D. the rest of the day was just a miraculous blessing. while they were putting the monitors on me, cyra had been moving around during one of my contractions. this caused a very small drop in her heart rate (it only happened once the entire L/D!), but even just that one random drop was enough for them to keep me & admit us! almost as if she was ready to come out, haha! it was wild, but we were so happy. shocked, but happy. we were convinced they'd send us back home to labor there, but we were praying they would keep us! it was officially baby time.
after this point, i developed a slight infection (honestly I didn't feel any different or sick - all God) that caused me to have a fever. they gave me tylenol which helped bring it down within the hour. so glad i had my personal fan with me- it helped a lot.
i made a worship playlist which was on the entire time & honestly it helped so much. kept me in a very positive, happy mindset. my labor & delivery was nothing as I had imagined, but perfectly flawless & miraculous in every single way. if i could go back to my pregnancy, i wish I didn't worry so much. i'm forever grateful for every second.
I had so much fun putting together her nursery and I'm excited to finally share these details and photos. Also, so excited to finally share her name -- so near and dear to our hearts!
